A 29-year-old Fort Macleod woman arrested earlier this year on numerous drug-related charges has been released from custody, but with strict conditions.

Katie Natasha Eagle Speaker was released on $300 bail Friday during a brief appearance in Lethbridge provincial court and ordered to behave herself, attend court when required, report weekly to the police, obey a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. very day, to live with her grandmother on the Blood Reserve, to not possess any weapons, and to avoid contact with her spouse and co-accused, Adrian North Peigan.

Police reported they caught a woman and two others with $6,600 worth of drugs, including five Oxycodone tablets, 4.1 grams of crack cocaine, a syringe loaded with fentanyl, 20 tablets of Gabapentin (a prescription drug used to treat epilepsy and neuropathic pain), 19 tablets of Temazepam (a prescription sleep medication), 251 tablets of Diclofenac (a prescription antiinflammatory drug), three bottles of methadone, and 36 unknown capsules, which were sent to a national RCMP laboratory for analysis. Multiple cellphones, a large machete and $275 cash were also seized.

The accused was arrested in Fort Macleod in mid-April following an operation by officers with the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team, the RCMP and Blood Tribe police, who searched two residences in Fort Macleod. Town residents North Peigan, 36, and Kimberley Creighton, 57, were also arrested.

Eagle Speaker and North Peigan are each charged with drug possession, drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and breach of recognizance. Eagle Speaker also faces one count of possession of the proceeds of crime. Creighton was charged with two counts of drug possession.

North Peigan’s case was in court Friday, as well, but simply adjourned to Sept. 27, when Eagle Speaker is also set to appear next.
