Are we really as cool as we think we are?

-

Is an economy worth saving if we have to teach our children they must volunteer at food banks, while financial banks fail, but make shareholders billionaires? How desperate are we to feel we must negotiate with a lying president?

It’s a strange world where PC party hacks would have you believe our problems all started the day after the NDP took on the monumental job of cleaning up after 40-odd years of conservative corruption and mismanagement. They want us to believe the recession, homelessness, drug addiction and pipeline problems popped out of the woodwork the minute Ms. Notley became premier.

I find it refreshing that those topics are in the open and talked about rather than swept out of sight. Of course the corporate lobby will complain that we haven’t squeezed out the last loonie from our resources and into their tax-free accounts. Oil and gas cons will always come up with schemes that leave taxpayers to clean up after them. Isn’t that what corporate lawyers do: protecting the endless capitalist rip-offs — private profit at social expense? Billionaire bankers and “entrepreneurs” admit no responsibility, and insist the government must save the economy that they continually trash.

Greed is the word that must not be spoken. No one must question the big-time predators. Humans kill to get better at killing, like wiping out the buffalo and carrier pigeons, just because they were there. If climbing mountains killed them, we would flatten the world. Humans kid ourselves, convinced we are “intelligent.” We are now promoting artificial intelligence; where has the real intelligence gone?

Humans love to lie, to ourselves, to everyone else. We call them “little” and “white.” Humans love these lies, it’s “cool.” Lying helps to support our fantasies like “markets,” “economy” and “free” trade. Humans are cool, sooo cool.
