Hurricanes wrapping up preseason

The Lethbridge Hurricanes wrap up the their preseason with a pair of games against the team who ended their playoff run last spring.

The Hurricane host the Western Hockey League champion Swift Current Broncos in preseason action tonight at 7 p.m. at the Enmax Centre.

The teams cap off the home-and-home series Saturday night in Swift Current.

The Canes come into tonight’s game 2-1 in the preseason after a 1-1 split with the Medicine Hat Tigers and a 5-4 overtime win over the Red Deer Rebels last Saturday in Wainwright.

Lethbridge has 15 forwards, 10 defencemen and three goaltender­s on their roster heading into the weekend.

That includes four players currently at NHL training camps.

Captain and forward Jordy Bellerive and defenceman Calen Addison are at the Pittsburgh Penguins camp, while defenceman Igor Merezhko is at the Calgary Flames camp.

Import draft and goaltender Akria Schmid is at the New Jersey Devils camp.

Last year’s first-round pick, Noah Boyko, leads the Canes in preseason scoring with two goals in three games while Logan Barlage and and Keltie Jeri-Leon both have a goal and an assist in three games.

The Hurricanes open their WHL season next Friday against the Tigers at 7 p.m. at the Enmax Centre in a home-and-home series that shifts to Medicine Hat Saturday night.

It’s the eighth straight season the rivals have opened with a home-and-home series.
