Taber break-in suspect has matter adjourned

- Delon Shurtz LETHBRIDGE HERALD

One of three Lethbridge people charged in relation to thefts from a Taber business earlier this month made a brief appearance in Lethbridge provincial court Thursday.

Megan Laube, who was released from custody shortly after her arrest a week ago, was represented in court by Legal Aid lawyer Brett Carlson. Carlson told court he had provided Laube a referral to Legal Aid, and the matter was adjourned to Oct. 18 to allow her time to retain a lawyer.

On Sept. 10, Taber RCMP received a report that a business in the MD of Taber had been broken into and several items stolen. The stolen items were listed for sale online three days later, and the following day RCMP officers, the Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit and Lethbridge police officers, including the tactical team, converged on a residence in Lethbridge and arrested three people.

Stolen property was recovered and returned to the owner, and police seized drugs and a stolen firearm they also found at the residence.

“Collaboration and partnerships lead to successful arrests,” Sergeant Gordon Yetman of the Taber/Vauxhall RCMP detachment, said in a news release. “Every seizure of drugs and firearms play a crucial part in making our communities safer.”

Laube, 28, faces 16 charges comprising possession of a firearm obtained by the commission of an offence, careless use and storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and knowing possession of it is unauthorized, possession of stolen property under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime.

Daniel Chrysler, 38 also faces 16 offences including possession of stolen property, drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of a weapon obtained by crime. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Lethbridge court today.

Dakota Parker, 21, is charged with 15 offences, including possession of stolen property, fail to comply with conditions and careless use of a firearm. The accused was remanded into custody and is also set to appear in Lethbridge court today.
