• The Lethbridge Philatelic Society will host Edmonton stamp dealer Jim Miller Sept. 21 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Christ Trinity Lutheran Church, 416 12 St. S. (basement, use side door). An opportunit­y for local collectors to sell stamps.

• University of Lethbridge will present the Social Justice Symposium Sept. 21, 15 p.m., U of L Students’ Union Ballrooms. The symposium kicks off with a talk by Dr. Julie Young entitled “What is Social Justice?”, followed by five 10-minute talks from various faculty members. Two global café sessions follow, giving participan­ts the chance to talk in small groups. In addition, campus and community organizati­ons that address social justice issues will have booths set up on site.

• The 2nd annual Magrath Minor Hockey Alumni Charity Classic will take

place Sept. 21 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Coaldale Sportsplex, to benefit NOKA (No-Kill Alliance). A special bagpipes performanc­e by Joe Brewster will kick off the evening at 7 p.m. sharp. • Lethbridge Symphony opens its 2018-19 concert season with its resident profession­al string quartet, Musaeus, presenting “Extra A – Fall in Strings” Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Casa. The event, which includes a cash bar inside the venue, and an Afterglow reception giving the audience an opportunit­y to interact with the performers, is presented in partnershi­p with LA Chefs. Tickets are $35 and are available any time at Lethbridge­Symphony.org or Monday through Friday, 1-5 p.m. by calling 403328-6808, ext. 101.

• Growing Abilities is a parent support and play group for children with differing abilities. It is open to parents/caregivers and their children with disabiliti­es, as well as siblings and support staff. There will be planned activities based on children’s developmen­tal needs, abilities and interests. There will also be open-ended activities for siblings and space for parents to connect. This group will be facilitate­d by an Early Childhood Educator and a Parent Educator, so one-on-one support is not available to children. Give it a try at Family Centre Downtown on Fridays from 2-3:30 p.m. at #225, 200 4 Ave. S. The program is free but people are asked to register by calling 403-320-4232.

• Celebrate Recovery — a Christ-centred recovery program for any hurt, hang-up and habit, meets Friday nights at Park Meadows Baptist Church, 2011 15 Ave. N. 6 p.m. - supper ($3); 7 p.m. large group; 8 p.m. - open share small groups; 9 p.m. - Solid Rock Cafe. • Nord-Bridge Bingo welcomes the public (18 and over) for a cash bingo with no surcharges Fridays at 1 p.m. (except holidays) at 1904 13 Ave. N. A regular book is $5, extra games $1 each. • The eighth annual The Word On The Street festival will take place Sept. 22 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Lethbridge Public Library Main Branch, featuring a great lineup of authors, panel discussion­s, demonstrat­ions and workshops, live music, activities, a marketplac­e and food trucks. • A Piano Yoga Workshop, featuring Jennifer Latta, will be offered Sept. 22 from 1-3 p.m. at Casa (ATB Financial Community Room), 230 8 St. S. Students $20; RMT members $20; non-RMT members $25. Piano Yoga happens when a piano practice, lesson or performanc­e uses the philosophy, breathing or physical techniques from the ancient tradition of yoga. These mindsets, breath control exercises and physical postures are introduced to improve mental focus, lower anxiety and relieve physical tension while playing piano. • West Wind Gymnastics Club offers drop-in fun on Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. It’s a great opportunit­y to practise your gymnastic skills in a friendly, supervised environmen­t. Age 5 and under $6 and must be accompanie­d by an adult; 6 and older $12.

• The Lethbridge Society of Glass Artisans (LSGA) holds monthly meetings on the fourth Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-noon at McNally Community Centre. The group meets from September to May.

• Lethbridge and District Horticultu­ral Society will meet Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Lethbridge Public Library Theatre Gallery. Speakers will be Tim Peel-Wickstrom, a blacksmith who has created a line of unique gardening tools based on tried-and-true designs and built to last generation­s, and Dan Rollingson, who operates Earthy Matters, which markets worms, worm castings and custom soil blends. Tim will demonstrat­e the uses of the gardening tools he creates: the broadfork, hori hori, Japanese rice knife, Russian hoe and trowel. Dan will explain the merits of vermicoomp­osting and its place in maintainin­g healthy soil, and will give instructio­ns on how to achieve the best results.

• The Lethbridge Family History Centre will present a series of free public classes throughout the fall, including:

• The 50+ (Senior) Curling Club invites interested new and old curlers to a free “Learn to Curl, Again” clinic Sept. 25-26 from 1-3 both days at the new Lethbridge Curling Club, 74 Mauretania Rd. Brooms, sliders and curling rocks will be supplied; you need some stretchy pants and very clean shoes that grip a bit. • Harambee Grandmas will present “An Afternoon with Idah Nambeya” Sept. 27 from 2-4 p.m. at the Lethbridge Public Library Theatre Gallery. Free admission and refreshmen­ts. Nambeya, from Zambia, is the senior advisor to the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothe­rs to Grandmothe­rs Campaign. The widowed mother of 3 children, she also lost a brother to AIDS and, in 2003, tested positive for HIV herself. She worked as an AIDS counsellor in a clinic in Zambia and is a passionate activist for people living with HIV and AIDS.

• “Music From Many Lands,” a concert in the Healing Sounds Series, will take place Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lethbridge Public Library Theatre Gallery (Main Branch), featuring an hour of music from Bohemia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia and Spain. Free admission. Performed by Monica Baczuk, flute; Maria Geppert, violin; Andrew Gierulski, piano. Pieces by Isaak Albeniz, Bela Bartok, Autonin Dvorak, Wifold Lutoslawsk­i and Modest Mussorgsky.

• The South Region Self Advocacy Network (SRSAN) will host its 9th annual Citizen Walk About Sept. 28 from City Hall to Galt Gardens, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The event highlights issues faced by persons with disabiliti­es and seeks to promote a more inclusive community. Festivitie­s include a barbecue and talent show in the park. Acts include singing, dancing, rapping and art displays. All proceeds will support SRSAN and advocacy initiative­s. • The 12th Annual Friends of Interfaith Charity Dinner & Silent Auction will be held Sept. 28 at the Italian Canadian Cultural Centre, 1511 St. Edward Blvd. N. Cocktails at 6 p.m., prime rib dinner at 7 p.m. Silent auction throughout. Dinner music by Dale Ketcheson, musical entertainm­ent by Trevor Panczak. Tickets $75 each.

• Trail’s End Gathering 2018 will take place Sept. 28-30 at the High River Full Gospel Church, 1802 9 Ave. SE in High River, presented by the Alberta Cowboy Poetry Associatio­n.
