Hearing, trial dates set for Twigg, Scout

- Tim Kalinowski LETHBRIDGE HERALD

A voir dire hearing to determine what evidence jurors will hear in the second-degree murder trial of co-accused Tylan Twigg and Danny Scout will take place on April 15-23 and April 23-26 next year. The trial date on these same charges will also take place between Sept. 3 and Oct. 11, 2019.

Crown and defence lawyers agreed to those dates in the Lethbridge Court of Queen’s Bench on Monday.

Scout and Twigg are accused of murdering Kenrick Leonard First Rider, and were ordered to stand trial on the charges following a preliminary hearing held in Lethbridge provincial court at the beginning of August.

Twigg, 24, and Scout, 19, were charged after EMS were called to a home in the 1200 block of 9 Avenue North about 7:20 a.m. Nov. 27 last year. Police later determined First Rider had been involved in a verbal dispute with two men at the home. The dispute escalated to a physical altercation in which First Rider was killed.

Twigg, who remains in custody, was arrested the same day after he went to the police station. Scout was arrested later in the day after a warrant was issued and police received some tips from the public. He was released on bail in February but arrested again sometime later on a breach charge. He has since been re-released.

Police reported that Twigg is the son of the victim’s girlfriend, and that First Rider and both accused were living together in the same house. Police also said they had been called to the home for disturbances in the past. -With files from Delon Shurtz Follow @TimKalHerald on Twitter
