X-ray technician lands new ride
ZOETEMAN LUCKY WINNER IN CRH TRUCK RAFFLE
For X-ray technician Chantel Zoeteman, it came as an unexpected interruption.
In the midst of her morning’s procedures at Chinook Regional Hospital, she was summoned to the main-floor atrium.
That’s where she learned she had just become the owner of a new $67,000 pickup truck. Minutes earlier, her name was drawn from among 7,000 entries in the hospital foundation’s annual truck raffle.
Now she’ll be driving a 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 Power Wagon crew cab four-by-four, supplied by Bridge City Chrysler.
“I’ve never won anything in my life,” Zoeteman told reporters. “I wasn’t expecting it.”
A hospital employee for 15 years, she said she’s been entering the annual draw for most of those years. The funds raised help patients, she said.
“My kids will be pumped,” she predicted.
When the westside resident heads to work each morning, “I drive a very old mini-van.”
Not much longer — but she said maybe her daughters could use it when they’re old enough.
Jason VandenHoek, executive director of the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation, reported this year’s raffle sold out in record time. That earned a gross revenue of $132,000, helping the foundation support programs and purchase equipment “that will ensure the best possible patient services in our community.”
Staff and patient education, health promotion programs and other patient services are also supported through the foundation’s initiatives. But funds can be directed to “any area of need” in the hospital.
It’s the eighth year for the truck draw, he said. Tickets went on sale in May, offered to hospital visitors, patients, staff and the general public.
