One Revolution at a Time

- Tyler Stewart

The bicycle is truly an elegant and efficient invention. Much more than the simple children’s toy it was originally viewed as, it has become a symbol of liberation, a regular mode of transportation, an exercise regimen, a gateway to explore nature, and so much more.

With many ingenious parts all linked together in a seamless manner, the bicycle requires regular maintenance to remain in peak operating condition.

The tires must be balanced, tubes properly seated, and inflated to the correct pressure.

Spokes need to be tightened, chain lubed, gears greased and calibrated to shift properly on demand. All these elements must function in perfect harmony, or an enjoyable ride can quickly become a frustrating walk — pushing your failed machine along beside you.

As an organization, BikeBridge Cycling Association has seen its most productive year yet, but also requires ongoing maintenance to ensure it runs smoothly and effectively.

From planning our third-straight annual Jane’s Ride, to helping launch the new 7th Avenue Bike Boulevard, to coordinating the first-ever Lethbridge Bike Fest, it has been an incredible year for the local cycling community.

By building new relationships and reaching out to collaborate with more local partners, we have seen more interest to create sociallyfocused events to grow the circle.

That said, BikeBridge is in need of some tuning and upkeep itself. Without proper upkeep and new energy, our momentum could quickly come to a halt.

We will be celebrating this year’s successes at our Annual General Meeting and welcome the community to join us at Theoretical Brewing Thursday at 7 p.m. We invite everyone to come see what we’ve been up to, but also hope to welcome new members into the fold.

Anyone interested to help grow the local cycling community is encouraged to become a member and seek nominations to join our board of directors.

Made up of open-minded cycling enthusiasts, our board cares about cycling as much for its social function as for any kind of riding, so don’t feel like you need to be a spandexwearing maniac to attend.

We can build together on the momentum BikeBridge has achieved during the past year and pedal towards a brighter future for cycling in Lethbridge, but much like a long bike ride — it will take endurance. Join our peloton and ride with us into a new year of cycling adventures!
