Kodiaks soccer at home

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD

The Lethbidge College Kodiaks men’s and women’s soccer teams are serving up a pair of home games during Thanksgiving weekend.

The Kodiaks — both 3-3-1 — will look to get back above the .500 mark, but more importantly, keep themselves in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference playoff race starting this afternoon against the Ambrose University Lions at the Servus Sports Centre.

On Sunday, the Kodiaks welcome the Medicine Hat Rattlers to town.

On the men’s side, the Kodiaks head into today’s game coming off a 1-1 showing last weekend following a win over the Olds Broncos and a loss to the SAIT Trojans.

That puts them three points behind the Rattlers (43-1) for the third-and-final playoff spot as the ACAC season heads past the halfway point.

However, the Kodiaks have a game in hand on Medicine Hat.

Today is the first meeting between Lethbridge and Ambrose as the Lions continue their first year of soccer.

The Kodiaks and Rattlers battled to a 1-1 tie in their first game of the season Sept. 16 in Medicine Hat.

Lethbridge’s Wilson Ntignee leads the Kodiaks and is tied for fifth in the conference with five goals, while Jimmy Bukuru has four.

Team captain Ben Knight was named the Mucho Burrito Kodiaks Athlete of the Week last weekend.

Like the men’s team, the Kodiaks women are 3-3-1 and three points behind the final playoff spot in the ACAC South Division.

The Kodiaks earned a key win over Olds last Saturday at home before falling to the undefeated SAIT Trojans.

They sit three points behind the Broncos for third, but have a game in hand.

The Lions women’s team is 2-3-1 while the Rattlers are 16-1.

Bryce Sherring has scored five goals for the Kodiaks to lead the team.

The women’s game is noon both days with the men to follow at 2 p.m.
