Horns men’ beat Wesmen

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s basketball are 2-0 so far on their Thanksgivi­ng weekend run to Manitoba.

The Horns topped the Winnipeg Wesmen 103-99 in exhibition play Friday night in Winnipeg.

That puts the Pronghorns at 2-0 on their road trip following a 103-86 win over the Brandon Bobcats Thursday night in Brandon.

On Friday, Mike Pierzchala led Lethbridge with 25 points.

Zac Overwater and Eric Pierce hit the 20-point mark in the win with 21 and 20 points, respective­ly. Pierce also had four steals.

Colton Gibb added 13 points for the Pronghorns and Awak Piom chipped in with 12. Gibb led the Pronghorns under the boards with seven rebounds, while Kyle Peterson had 10 assists.

In Brandon on Thursday, the Pronghorns trailed 42-20 at the half, but put up 35 points in the third quarter and 28 more in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Bobcats.

Pierzchala once again led the Horns with 21 points, while Piom had 17 and Gibb added 13.

Peterson (13 points), Josh Sparkes (11) and Overwater (10) also hit double digits for Lethbridge.

Overwater had 12 rebounds and Peterson put up another 10 assists.

The Pronghorns and Wesman go back at it tonight at 6 p.m. in the rematch.
