Midget Canes check their list

- Dale Woodard LETHBRIDGE HERALD

Like someone with a list of household tasks to complete, the Lethbridge midget AAA Hurricanes are checking off a few items.

Fortunately for the Canes, the most important item — a win — got checked following a 4-3 win over the St. Albert Nektar Data Systems Raiders in Alberta Midget Hockey League play Saturday afternoon at Nicholas Sheran Arena.

After Hurricanes goaltender Cole Tisdale held the fort admirably in the opening 40 minutes with Lethbridge hanging onto a 1-0 lead, the teams kicked off the shackles in a wild, goal-swapping final period before Michael Horon struck for the game-winner with 9:17 to go.

Tisdale made 25 saves on the afternoon.

The win improves the Canes to 2-1 as the team heads to Calgary to face the Flames today.

“It was a really good team effort,” said Hurricanes head coach Doug Paisley. “We met a lot of the numbers and analytics and metrics we set for ourselves. The guys were able to tick a lot of the boxes. Matt Vogelaar won five faceoffs in a row in the last 40 seconds to make sure they couldn’t touch a puck. We’re really happy with the win and the boys today.”

After a scoreless first period, Lethbridge’s Tristan Kimmen broke the scoreless tie midway through the second.

That’s the way it stayed until the running and gunning started in the third.

The Raiders got it rolling with a power play goal 34 seconds into the third as Eric Perneel tied it up.
