Corn maze hosts annual fundraiser
The Lethbridge Corn Maze invited families and friends to the fields to raise money for a local organization for their annual Thanksgiving fundraiser.
Over the last 19 years, the Lethbridge Corn Maze has helped raise funds for deserving organizations including local food banks, fire rescue, hurricane relief and Women’s Mission in Mexico which helps women in domestic violence situations.
This year’s organization they raised money for was Rehoboth South Region in Coaldale which provides a variety of services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Some of the services they provide is support, advocacy, public education, opportunities for personal growth, and meaningful participation in society.
The money raised at the Thanksgiving fundraiser goes towards a new interactive outdoor space on the side of the complex where individuals can go to relax, and experience nature.
“Rehoboth does a lot of good work within the community and they work with people that have special needs and this fundraiser specifically is for a serenity garden that they are building beside their place,” says Esther Slingerland, owner of Lethbridge Corn Maze. “We like to do something local every other year and we know some of the people who are involved with Rehoboth, we really admire what they do and we want to support them.”
The goal of the park is to create an environment that is a safe, relaxing, interactive area that will encourage exploring and stimulating all five senses. Six years ago, they came up with the idea of the park and now with hard work and donations of many committed individuals, Rehoboth will have a park to help enhance the lives of all who are served at the program.
The Lethbridge Corn Maze donated all of the proceeds from their entrance fees from Thanksgiving Monday, along with the funds from the barbeque and pumpkin sales. The Lethbridge Corn Maze is still open for people to get lost in until Oct. 27. For more information on Rehoboth and their programs, visit rehoboth.ab.ca.
