Great Prairie Bottle Harvest helps local communities, causes
Alberta’s largest bottle drive begins Saturday
Alberta Depot announced the largest bottle drive in Alberta with three days of facilitated bottle drives across the province to shine a spotlight on Albertans helping Albertans. The Great Prairie Bottle Harvest will bring together communities to raise funds in support of a diverse range of worthy causes province-wide.
“Alberta has one of the highest rates of return for beverage containers in the world, and this is thanks to our deposit system,” said Lori Koebel, Manager, Communications and Marketing, ABCRC. “In 2017 Albertans achieved a return rate of over 85 per cent equating to over two billion containers diverted from landfill. This success in beverage container recycling is built on a foundation of connecting with communities and other stakeholders to ensure we are continuously improving the efficiencies and effectiveness of the beverage container recycling system in Alberta.”
Alberta’s largest bottle drive takes place Oct. 13, 20, and 27 across various Alberta communities. View a full list of participating communities at community.changethatcounts.ca. Residents are encouraged to donate generously when registered participants come door-to-door in your community to collect beverage containers on the three drive dates in October.
Bottle drives, like the Great Prairie Bottle Harvest, provide access to vital funding for community clubs, organizations and individuals in Alberta and this event is truly an example of Albertans helping Albertans. Alberta Depot has brought together 90 registered participants province-wide and the funds raised from this bottle drive will go toward worthy causes in each community.
Alberta has one of the most successful beverage container deposit and recycling programs in the world with 85 per cent of all empty beverage containers purchased in Alberta returned for refund, which amounts to keeping over two billion containers out of landfills each year.
The Great Prairie Bottle Harvest supports Alberta Depot’s 2018 campaign: Change That Counts, educating Albertans about how the deposit system works, as well as highlighting the numerous environmental, economic and non-profit benefits that it provides.
