Full fields highlight 20 races at RMTC
What began the first weekend of May, is now drawing to an end. Live racing at Rocky Mountain Turf Club is wrapping up this weekend with six races tonight and seven each on Saturday and Sunday. Post time for tonight is 6 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday both start at 1:15 p.m.
The racing season has been full of heartbreak and joy combined. Some horses never lived up to expectations, while some far surpassed any aspirations their trainers may have had from them.
Lyle Magnuson has a few horses that have passed expectations, such as three-year old, Klondike Ike, who is a huge favourite in the Autotote Derby slated for Sunday. The closest thing to competition for Magnuson in that race is Jack Bolin’s Forty Caliber and Russell Gardipy’s, Cool Brewski.
Magnuson also sends out the huge morning-line favourite in the final race Sunday, the Fillies Oaks Stake, with his entry of, Sterling Aly, who has won five of her seven starts this year. Nellie Pigeau’s, Awesomeagainnagain, along with Elaine Edwards’, Piper’s Joy will provide some competition for Magnuson.
Magnuson is a runaway leader in the trainer award for the fall meet at Rocky Mountain Turf Club. Magnuson’s rider, Larris Allen, is in a dogfight once again with Blandford Stewart for the leading rider award at the fall meet.
Allen won the honours in the spring meet at Rocky Mountain Turf Club, while Stewart was the winner at Evergreen Park in Grande Prairie this summer. This will probably go right down to the last day to see who picks up the trophy and the glory.
There will be the usual extras and a little more the final weekend. The playground is always a huge hit with parents and children alike, along with the now world-famous candy scramble.
