Pronghorns women’s basketball goes 1-1 in Saskatchewan
The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s basketball team went 1-1 in weekend exhibition play in Saskatchewan on the weekend.
The Pronghorns earned a 77-72 win over the Lakehead University Thunderwolves Thursday in Regina, but were unable to make it a 2-0 road trip, falling 77-68 to University of Regina Cougars Friday.
In Thursday’s win, two Horns hit the 20-point mark as Asnate Fomina and Amy Mazutinec scored 24 and 20 points, respectively, for Lethbridge.
Danielle Fritzke also hit double digits for the Pronghorns with 12 points.
Katie Keith and Kacie Bosch had eight rebounds and Mazutinec added eight.
On Friday against the Cougars, the Pronghorns led 19-17 after the first quarter before being held to eight in the second quarter.
Mazutinec had 16 points for the Horns and Bosch, Fritzke and Isabel Rattai each had 11.
Keith hauled in another nine boards.
The Pronghorns head to Edmonton for three more preseason games this weekend.
They’ll play the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades Friday, the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds Saturday and the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Sunday.
The Horns open their Canada West season Nov. 2-3 when they host the MacEwan University Griffins.
