Catholic Central wins battle of Cougars

Catholic Central swept Cardston in a battle of the Cougars in Southern Alberta High School Volleyball League boys’ action on Wednesday.

CCH defeated Cardston 3-1 in varsity play by scores of 25-20, 14-25, 25-14 and 25-19.

In junior varsity action, CCH downed Cardston 2-1 by scores of 21-25, 25-23 and 16-14.

In other action, Immanuel Christian and Magrath split their matches with the Eagles topping the Zeniths 3-1 in varsity play, 25-19, 25-22, 22-25 and 25-18.

Magrath claimed the JV match 2-0 by scores of 2519 and 25-20.

Winston Churchill Bulldogs defeated Coaldale Kate Andrews Pride 3-1 in varsity play by scores of 2520, 25-15, 22-25 and 26-24.

In a lone JV match, Chinook Coyotes defeated Taber W.R. Myers Rebels 20, 25-14 and 25-22.

In girls’ league play Wednesday, Catholic Central Cougars swept the Winston Churchill Griffins, winning the varsity contest 3-0 by scores of 25-9, 25-16 and 25-17.

Charlotte Vanden Elzen had seven kills and two service aces for the Cougars while Charlotte Perry added four kills and an ace.

Lauren Platz replied with six kills for the Griffins and Vicki Crandal added three kills and two blocks.

In JV play, CCH held off Churchill 2-1 by scores of 25-12, 26-28 and 15-11.

In a Tuesday contest, Chinook Coyotes swept Taber W.R. Myers Rebels, taking the varsity match 31 by scores of 25-13, 12-25, 25-22 and 25-18.

Chinook downed Myers 2-0 in JV play, 25-18 and 25-8.
