Two organizations in Lethbridge helped raise more than $9,500 for local charities in September through the Lowe’s Canada Heroes Campaign.

Lowe’s Lethbridge helped raise almost $5,900 for the Lethbridge Downtown BRZ, to go toward construction improvements to their Clean Sweep Program (CSP) community shed. The CSP keeps the downtown streets clean by giving meaningful employment to the venerable population such as homeless individuals.

Their community shed needs better insulation and lighting for winter where their workers go for meals, congregate and collect their supplies for the day’s job.

“Lowe’s chose to help raise money for the Downtown BRZ Clean Sweep Program which is truly amazing,” says Melissa Johnson, Clean Sweep program manager. “They not only raised the money in the store, to help us purchase the supplies to improve the shed, but the staff are also volunteering their time to work with the CSP workers to improve it together, and we are looking to have it done by November before winter really begins.”

Rona Lethbridge worked hard within their store to raise more than $3,800 for the Lethbridge Food Bank Society to help stock their shelves with more food for individuals and families in the community who rely on the food bank for their next meal.

Through the Heroes Campaign, Lowe’s Canada has raised a total of $1.1 million across Canada. Every Lowe’s and Rona, and RenoDepot corporate stores throughout the country collected donations to help local non-profit organizations or public schools of their choosing fulfil their missions or carry out specific projects.

“We are grateful that our employees and customers across the country came together again this year to help people love where they live,” says Jean-Sebastien Lamoureux, senior vice-president, Communications, Public Affairs and Compliance at Lowe’s Canada. “With all our corporate stores participating for the first time, out Heroes Campaign extended its support to even more community organizations and projects.”

The corporation collected the donations and matched them up to $2,000 per store. All funds raised in the stores, along with matching corporate donations, have been donated to more than 260 community organizations.

Lowe’s Canada says the Heroes Campaign not only helps out with community improvement, but the program also encourages their employees to works together as a team.
