Kodiaks hit the court

The court is in session for the Lethbridge College Kodiaks basketball and volleyball teams this weekend.

In hoops actions, the Kodiaks women look to build on their 2-0 start to the season, while the men (0-2) look for their first win as they host the Medicine Hat Rattlers in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference play tonight at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.

The women’s game is at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8 p.m.

In volleyball, the Kodiaks are in Calgary to face the Ambrose Lions before the home-andhome series shifts back to the Val Matteotti Gymnasium Saturday night.

Tonight, the Kodiaks women’s basketball team will contend with another undefeated team as the 3-0 Rattlers come calling.

For Lethbridge, Courtney Peterson is the team’s leading scorer, coming off a 20-point outing in a win over Ambrose last weekend.

On the men’s side, the Kodiaks narrowly missed their first win last weekend as a final-second shot in overtime against the Lions stayed out to drop Lethbridge to 0-2.

Their search for the first win will come against an undefeated team as they deal with the 3-0 Rattlers tonight.

Kodiak Orin Porter Jr. is tied for first in points per game with 22, while Michael Clemons is third in shooting percentage at 64.7 per cent.

Lincoln Anderson sits fourth in rebounds per game with 11.5.

Admission for tonight’s game is free to Lethbridge College students with their student ID, $3 for college employees, $5 for seniors, youth and alumni and $8 for the public.

On the volleyball court, the Kodiak men are off to a blazing 4-0 start and look to keep that going against the 0-3 Lions.

Carter Hansen leads the ACAC with 74 kills. Teammate Matt Primrose has an ACACleadin­g 58 digs this season.

The Kodiaks women will try to end a three-game losing streak against 1-2 Ambrose.

Harper Elwood and Laura Serafini lead the Kodiaks with 24 kills each, while Grace Kazanowski is second the ACAC in blocks per set with 1.33.

The women’s game is 6 p.m. Saturday. The men play at 8.
