Golden Hawks secure three weekend points

A late third-period surge earned the Lethbridge Val Matteotti bantam AAA Golden Hawks a three-point weekend.

The Golden Hawks skated to a 4-4 tie with the Okotoks Oilers in Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League play Sunday afternoon in Okotoks.

Down 4-2 late in the third period, the Golden Hawks scored twice in the last eight minutes to earn a tie with the Oilers to wrap up a 1-0-1 weekend following a 4-2 home win over the Medicine Hat Southeast Tigers Saturday afternoon at Nicholas Sheran Arena.

The undefeated weekend improves the bantam squad to 3-6-2 on the season.

On Sunday, John Szabo scored for Lethbridge with eight minutes to go to cut the Oilers lead to 4-3 before Braigh LeGrandeur netted the game-tying goal with 3:51 remaining.

Zach Rajcic scored in the first period for the Golden Hawks and Rylen Roersma added another in the second period.

Szabo added two assists for a three-point afternoon and Roersma had an assist for a two-point game.

Peyton Twigg had two assists for the Golden Hawks and goaltender Ty Young had a 27-save performanc­e.

Roersma scored twice in the third period of Saturday’s win over the Tigers.

Emanual Hudson and LeGrandeur scored in the first period for Lethbridge. LeGrandeur also had an assist.

Young made 31 saves, including 13 in the third period.

The Golden Hawks are off until Nov. 24 when they host the Airdrie Xtreme at 7:30 p.m. at the ATB Centre.

The team rounds out November in Calgary the next day when they travel to Calgary to take on the Calgary Royals.
