Quarter-finals set in V-ball playoffs

The final eight have been determined in the Southern Alberta High School Volleyball League Senior Girls Postseason Tournament following the completion of opening round play on Wednesday.

The LCI Clippers were in tough before emerging with a 3-2 victory over the Cardston Cougars on Wednesday. Clippers won the opening set 25-17 only to have the Cougars rattle off a pair of wins 25-10, 25-13. Clippers rebounded with a tough 25-23 victory to force a fifth set, which they won 15-8.

LCI will play No. 2 seed and host Chinook Coyotes in the quarter-finals on Friday at 6 p.m.

In other action, Taber W.R. Myers Rebels swept past the Immanuel Christian Eagles, but it took a huge effort as the Rebels outlasted the Eagles 29-27, 26-24 and 26-24.

Rebels will play No. 4 seed Taber St. Mary’s Auroras in Friday’s quarterfin­als at 8 p.m.

Also advancing were the Coaldale Kate Andrews Pride, who swept the Picture Butte Sugar Queens 3-0 by scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 26-24.

Pride will play No. 3 Winston Churchill Griffins at 8 p.m. on Friday.

The other quarter-final Friday will have No. 1 Catholic Central Cougars playing No. 8 Raymond Comets at 6 p.m.

Action continues Saturday with the semifinals at 10 a.m. and noon followed by bronze medal match at 2 p.m. The gold medal match is set for 4 p.m.
