Today you’re invited to get — and to give!

For the Allied Arts Council, it’s the final day of its annual “Christmas at Casa” event, with an exciting range of artworks and craft items for sale.

And today is also an opportunity to bring “Christmas Hope” to local families who are facing bleak times. When heading over to Casa, you’re asked to bring a donation — cash or non-perishable food — to support the ongoing efforts of the Interfaith Food Bank, the Lethbridge Food Bank and the Salvation Army, as well as the toys-for-kids initiatives of the Shop of Wonders and Lethbridge Family Services.

Admission is free, and the event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• • • And after shortening your gift list, how about a relaxing swim? Three City-operated pools are offering a free swim today, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., in exchange for a food bank donation. Collection bins will be on hand at Stan Siwik, Fritz Sick and Nicholas Sheran Pools. Bring the family!

• • • Another free event today: Lethbridge College is inviting all interested to mark Global VR Day, with opportunities for visitors to learn more about virtual reality — and to try it for themselves.

“This is a chance for the community to experience augmented and virtual reality, and really learn what it’s capable of,” says college multimedia production instructor Mike McCready.

“Virtual reality is not this outof-touch technology exclusive to big corporations,” he says — it’s being used today in homes and schools as well as Canadian businesses.

Events will run from noon to 3 p.m. on the third floor of the college’s technologies wing.

• • • Also on the menu today, New West

Theatre is staging “Night Life 2.0,” an adults-only cabaret presenting “exciting new material in a casual, intimate setting.”

Performers will be serving up their mix of music and comedy at the Cite des Prairies, at 21 Street and 6 Avenue South, starting at 8 p.m. Check the Ticket Centre website to see if it's not sold out!

• • • Next weekend, another adultoriented event returns to the stage. Lethbridge College students have tapped into their creativity and imagination to create wearable items for the “Condom Couture Fashion Fundraiser,” supporting HIV awareness and education, as well as helping southern Albertans who are living with the disease. Themed as an “underwater fantasy,” the Nov. 24 event in the West Pavilion at Exhibition Park will include fashions, “lip-synch battles,” a drag show and a nacho bar.

Tickets are available through by searching www.eventbrite.com or by phone at 403-328-8186.

• • • For seasonal family fun, the Helen Schuler Nature Centre is presenting two days of Christmas craft-making later this month, from 7 p.m. on Nov. 29 and 30. But today, it’s joining Environment Lethbridge and the City’s waste and recycling department for an “eco-wrapping event” as part of “Christmas at Casa.”
