Kolle’s three-point night leads Hurricanes past Blades

Ty Kolle scored the game winner early in the third period and collected two assists as the Lethbridge Hurricanes skated to a 3-1 victory over the Saskatoon Blades in Western Hockey League play Wednesday night in Saskatoon.

Kolle scored his fifth of the season at 3:17 of the third, and earned an assist when Jackson Shepard scored his first of the season into an empty net with 25 seconds remaining.

The teams were tied 1-1 after a frantic final minute of the first period. Tristen Robins scored with 53 seconds remaining, before Jadon Joseph tied things for the Hurricanes 35 seconds later. It was Joseph’s 10th goal of the season, with Kolle drawing the lone assist.

Carl Tetachuk stood tall in the Hurricanes goal, stopping 35 of 36 shots. He had 16 saves in the first period as Lethbridge played one night following a 5-1 loss to the leaguelead­ing Prince Albert Raiders.

Nolan Maier faced 28 shots while taking the loss for the Blades.

Lethbridge improved to 10-8-2-2 and moved into third in the Central Division, one point ahead of the Medicine Hat Tigers. Red Deer and Edmonton continue to share the division lead with 31 points.

Saskatoon fell to 14-8-2-0 and remains second in the East Division, trailing the 21-1 Prince Albert Raiders.

The Hurricanes continue their fourgame road trip with stops in Brandon on Friday and Moose Jaw Saturday.
