Blue the theme of Lethbridge art sale
Southern Albertans have another month to enjoy the “Moody Blues.”
The Lethbridge art sale, that is — although the symphonic rock band has set the tone.
Local artist Kimberlee Davis says members of the Lethbridge Artists Club often show their work at Casa. But every fall, they pick a theme and bring out some of their latest two-dimensional work.
This year’s is based on the moods of blue, she explains. While some paintings may use that colour predominantly, others may reflect a “blue” or somber feeling. Some may celebrate the musical “blues” or another theme related in some way to the colour.
Whatever the inspiration, Davis says this year’s event — continuing until Dec. 21 — drew plenty of participants.
“We had a great response,” so many artworks that they exceeded the display space available in Casa’s Concourse Gallery. So this year’s event is actually two shows.
Half the submitted artworks are now on view, she explains. The remaining half will take their place later.
Davis says members of the club — founded in 1936 — include long-active artists as well as younger people learning from their elders. For some, it may be their first time in group exhibition.
“For many members of the Lethbridge Artists Club, opportunities to exhibit work is scarce,” she adds.
Most of the works are available for sale, she says. But Davis says artists often ask the purchaser to allow their selected piece to remain on view until the show ends.
She says the club, open to all interested, is pleased “to provide opportunities for emerging and mature artists alike to share their work and talents with the public.”
The group “encourages the community to come and take in this free exhibit and support their local area artists.
“They promise it won’t leave you feeling blue.”
