Dec. 16, customers can donate $2 at the store’s checkout in exchange for an orange paper door. All donations will help Wood’s Homes to continue to provide support to homeless and at-risk of homelessness youth in Lethbridge.
• Helen Schuler Nature Centre’s Junior Naturalists program for ages 6-10 will continue Dec. 1 from 10 a.m.-noon, featuring “Christmas Crafts.” Adults must sign children in and pick them up promptly at noon. • Overdue fines? Not a problem! Lethbridge Public Library’s Food for Fines program is running Dec. 1–12; pay off fines with a donation to the food banks. Each non-perishable food item is worth $5 toward your overdue library fines. Donations go to Interfaith and Lethbridge Food Banks. • Santa will be visiting Centre Village

• Compassionate Friends, a non-profit international support group for parents who have had a child die, meets the first
Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.noon at McKillop United Church, 2329 15 Ave. S. (but is not affiliated with the church). Parents and their supporting family members or friends are encouraged to attend and observe or talk about their experiences — it is just parents talking to parents. The tragedy could have happened last week or 10 years ago; the child could be an infant or an adult. • The Salvation Army will hold its 51st annual Coffee and Carols Dec. 2 at 2:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Community Church, 1302 4 Ave. S., with special guest Lethbridge Christian Women’s Choir led by Monica Baczuk, and guest vocal soloist Heather Holinaty. Lots of congregational carol singing, led by City Counsellor Mark Campbell, followed by coffee and Christmas goodies. Free admission - a collection will be taken.
• Annual Memorial Service to commemorate someone special in your life will be held Dec. 2 at 2:30 p.m. at the Chinook Regional Hospital in County Hall. Friends and family are welcome. Dec. 2 from 2-3 p.m., featuring “The Botany of Christmas.” Join Lyndon Penner for an interesting and surprising look at the history and horticulture surrounding the plants associated with Christmas and how they tie in with various beliefs. The goal of the day of recognition is to increase awareness and understanding of persons with disabilities and the issues that impact their lives. Join MA students Zoey Lorne and Danica Renke to learn about the experiences of women convicted as witches in early modern Scotland and the emotional experiences of Canadian servicewomen during the Second World War.
