Faith-based education is a human right, too
LETTERS
Re: Patricia and Tony Pargeter’s letter to the editor Nov. 29, “Don’t fund religious indoctrination.“
Dear Pat and Tony, it appears that for some reason you seem very much opposed to faith-based education. I have a question for you: who should have the main responsibility in raising children — parents or government?
Next question: why do you think that all children must be schooled in one and only one cookie mould? Then in the letter you say Roleina Slingerland (Nov. 24 letter to the editor) implies that faithbased schools would rather close than accept human rights. I say she implies the opposite; it is you that deny human rights for not wanting to allow for faithbased education.
The faith-based motto for Christian education, and other faith-based organizations, is “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul, and love your neighbour as yourself.” And yes, like all human beings, we at times fail the test.
Also, Pat and Tony, are you familiar with other faith-based organizations? I will quote you one of them, the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, founded in 1987, supported by 15 church agencies. In 2017 they raised over $15 million to help feed the needy in the world. Also many of our local food banks are operated by faith-based groups.
We wish you all a merry Christmas, and a blessed 2019.
