Pesticide training for area farmers
The County of Warner Ag Service Board will be holding Farmer Pesticide Certificate courses on Dec. 13 as well as on Jan. 10 and Jan. 31.
According to the Board, the course is mandatory for any farmer who wishes to apply restricted chemicals to their grains or land. The course is also mandatory for any farmer who has a certificate from before 2013 and wishes to continue using restricted chemicals.
The County of Warner Ag Service Board believes that pesticides play a vital role in modern farming and the chemicals that are used property are useful in protecting stock and livestock.
Chemicals that are used inappropriately, however, can cause some serious damage to people and livestock, so the course will help those potential issues be avoided.
Although the Farmer Pesticide Course was once under the jurisdiction of the Lakeland and Olds Colleges, the Ag Service Board says that is no longer the case and a new course has been designed. Certification from this new course expires five years after the certificate is issued.
The courses will be from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. on the select days in the County of Warner Ag Service Board Meeting Room. The cost for the course is $65 and covers both necessary materials and lunch.
If anyone has any questions or wants to pre-register for the course, they can call the Ag Service Board at 403-642-2255.
