A 30-year-old man accused of stabbing another man during a road-rage incident last year hopes to get out of jail later this month.

William Edward Fick has been in custody since Dec. 10 when he was arrested following a confrontation with another man on 3 Avenue South.

During a hearing Wednesday in Lethbridge provincial court, an agent for defence adjourned the matter to Feb. 25 when Calgary lawyer Andre Ouellette is expected to ask a judge to let his client out on bail. In the meantime, Fick continues to be remanded by consent at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre.

Fick is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose stemming from an altercation between two men and a woman before the actual stabbing. After the initial confrontation, the individuals drove away in two vehicles, but a second fight broke out sometime later when the two vehicles stopped for a red light near 3 Avenue and 12 Street South.

A 26-year-old man got out of his vehicle and smashed the window of the other vehicle with a snow brush, which prompted a 27-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man to get out of their vehicle and confront him. The younger man attempted to strike the woman, but hit the other man on the back when he intervened. The older man then stabbed his assailant multiple times and left him on the road before he and the woman fled in their vehicle.

A passenger inside the victim’s vehicle helped the wounded man and drove him to Chinook Regional Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition. Police found the other man at a residence a short time later and arrested him without incident.

Several days later police arrested the 26-yearold man after he was released from hospital. Christopher Anthony Degeorgio of Lethbridge was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon.
