The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s and women’s basketball teams host their final regular season home games this weekend.

The Kodiaks host the Briercrest Clippers in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference play tonight and Saturday afternoon at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.

Meanwhile, the Kodiaks volleyball teams are on the road to wrap up their regular seasons as they head to Olds to clash with the Broncos.

Coming off a bye weekend, the Kodiaks women’s basketball team looks to keep a six-game winning streak going that has moved them to 12-5 and into a tie for third place in the ACAC South Divison with the St. Mary’s Lightning (12-6). Thanks to that hot streak, the Kodiaks are one win away from clinching a playoff spot.

They’ll deal with a Clippers squad that is eight points back at 8-9.

The Kodiaks are four points back of Olds (14-3) who have clinched a playoff spot alongside the South Divisionleading Medicine Hat Rattlers (15-3).

Veteran guard Juhee Anderson continues to lead the Kodiaks with 14.3 points-per-game, good for 10th in the league.

The Kodiaks men’s team comes into the weekend battling for their playoff lives at 8-9, four points back of the Red Deer Kings, who the Kodiaks have a game in hand on.

Lethbridge looks to close the gap on Red Deer against the 2-15 Clippers, who have lost nine games in a row.

The Kodiaks have two players in the top-five scoring in the ACAC.

Lincoln Anderson is averaging 20.5 points-per-game and is in fourth in ACAC. Teammate Orin Porter Jr. is one spot back with 18.5 points-per-game.

Anderson is also the top rebounder in the ACAC, grabbing an average of 10.3 boards per game.

Michael Clemons continues to run away in the assist category with an average of 11.5 per game.

The women’s game tonight is 6 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, the women’s game is at 1 p.m., followed by the men’s at 3 p.m.

Tonight is also Junior and Senior High School appreciation night with students getting in for free.

The evening will feature a free barbecue, games, a photo booth and contests for prizes. The barbecue dinner begins at 5:30 p.m.

On the volleyball court, the Kodiaks men look to get back on the winning track after an 0-2 home weekend against the Red Deer Kings handed them their first setbacks of the year and puts them at 20-2.

They’ll face a team battling for their post-season lives as the Clippers roll into the Val Matteotti Gymnasium an even 11-11.

After hitting the 1,000 career-kill mark last weekend, Kodiak veteran Carter Hansen remains second in the ACAC in kills-per-set at 4.38. Matt Primrose remains in the top-10 in the conference in digs-per set with 2.63, good for eighth.

On the women’s side, the 3-19 Kodiaks will round out their season against the 121 Broncos.
