Cougar boys stay in first

The Cardston Cougars varsity boys basketball team padded its lead atop the Southern Alberta High School Basketball League standings.

Hosting the Medicine Hat Mohawks Saturday afternoon, the Cougars posted a 106-69 win to improve to 9-1, four points ahead of the 7-2 LCI Rams and the Mohawks, also 7-2.

Leading the Cougars was Adyn Card with 26 points while Taylor Barfuss and Ty Schaffer scored 15 points each.

Bryn Nelson added 11 points for Cardston and Isaac Atwood had 10.

For the Mohawks, Bailey Gosse, Ethan Egert and Fred Kabore had 17, 16 and 15 points, respective­ly.

The Wildcats won the junior varsity game 82-57 as Briggs Holland and Rhett Lewis scored 16 points each.

Braxen Scott scored 15 points for Cardston, and Drasyn Card put up 11.

Artche Belza and Jonny Van Dam each scored 11 points for Medicine Hat and Carter Schultz had 10.

On Friday at LCI, the Rams defeated the Mohawks 108-84.

Parks Hirsche led LCI with 20 points, Zach Jacobs scored 17, Brandon Laycock added 16, David Kindley had 14 and Isaiah Bagnah added 13.

Gosse paced the Mohawks with 20 points and Egert chipped in with 19.

Eidan Jonker scored 15 points for Medicine Hat.

In the junior varisty game, Dray Walburger scored 25 points as the Rams topped the Mohawks 79-54.

Ryan Evans and Mason Hoffman scored 19 and 15 points, respective­ly, for LCI.

For Medicine Hat, Gryffin Evans led the way with 15 points. Belza had 14 points and Van Dam hit for 12.

In junior varsity girls play Friday, the Taber W.R. Myers Rebels posted a 54-48 home win over the Chinook Coyotes.

Emily Hoyt scored 14 points for the Rebels and Elisa Rios put up 11.

Shyanne Howe led the Coyotes with 17 points.

On Thursday, the Catholic Central Cougars got past the Chinook Coyotes 89-68 for their first win of the season.

Will Hughes led the Cougars with 18 points and Nate Moreira added 16. Josh Crawford scored 14 points and Denelson Jada drained 11.

Karson Valgardson led the Coyotes with 25 points. Jared Rollingson added 12.

Catholic Central won the junior varsity game 76-52.

Crawford scored 17 points for Catholic Central and Tate Stroud had 13.

Ty Oliver led Chinook with 15 points and Court Jarome chipped in with 11.
