Pancake breakfasts will feed Whoop-Up Days hunger

So you missed the Calgary Stampede this year? Haven’t had your fill of pancake breakfasts or smoky barbecues? Fear not! Starting Sunday, southern Albertans can enjoy their choice of dozens of Whoop-Up Days snacking events throughout the city.

Better still, most are free or “by donation,” with proceeds helping local churches or non-profit groups that offer services or programs through the year.

He’ll be feted at a celebrator­y fund-raising dinner here on Oct. 17, helping create a U of L student scholarshi­p to be named in his honour. *** There’s typically a lull — so Seen and Heard will take a week off — between Whoop-Up Days and the week after Labour Day. But here are a few reminders of events over the next few days.

The Lethbridge Electronic Music Festival is showcasing local and touring DJs on three Galt Gardens stages today, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Local artists, artisan vendors, a kids’ area and food trucks are all part of the day, along with a beer garden. Admission is free. ***

A motorcycle “show and shine” event will be held by the Commandos Motorcycle Club today, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. outside Boss Hogs on 1 Avenue S. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to assist the Interfaith Food Bank. *** There’s also a “Big Birthday Bash” at both Lethbridge library branches, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Get there early for burgers, chips and pop, celebratin­g 100 years of library service in Lethbridge.
