Pronghorns tame Cougars

MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM GETS FIFTH WIN OF THE SEASON

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s basketball team returned to the win column with a triple-digit effort Thursday night.

The Pronghorns headed to Calgary and topped the Mount Royal University Cougars 10293 and are now 5-10.

Scott Mazutinec led the Pronghorns with 18 points and Chad Oviatt chipped in with a 16-point night and hauled in 12 rebounds for the doubledoub­le. Jeffery Rodehutsko­rs also earned a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Colton Gibb and Kyle Peterson each added 15 points and Keanu Funa sank 10. Brett Warren had four assists for the Pronghorns.

Lethbridge shot 50 per cent from the field, 33.3 per cent from the three-point line and 72 per cent on free throws.

The win puts the Horns in 11th in the Canada West.

The women’s team lost a close one, dropping a 78-74 decision to the Cougars for their third loss in a row to fall to 6-9 on the season.

Kacie Bosch led the Pronghorns with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Amy Mazutinec added 13 points and Asnate Fomina and Jessica Zarowny each had 12. Fomina also had six assists and five steals.

Jessica Haenni also scored double digits for Lethbridge with 11 points.

The Horns were 41.7 per cent from the field, 22.2 per cent from beyond the arc and 55.6 per cent on free throws

With the loss, the Horns are 11th in the Canada West.

The teams complete the home-and-home series Saturday at the 1st Choice Savings Centre starting with the women’s game at 5 p.m.

The men’s game goes at 7 p.m.
