Learn something new with the library

- Caroline Moynihan

Lifelong learning is critical in the 21st century. Whether for professional or personal reasons, upgrading your skills and knowledge can provide opportunity, improve your quality of life, and help you understand the world around you.

The Lethbridge Public Library offers the perfect resources to engage in those lifelong learning opportunities online, and now is a perfect opportunity to enroll in the many resources the library offers.

Gale Courses offers a wide range of highly interactive and instructor-led courses that you can take entirely online. As a library card holder in good standing, you are entitled to take these courses at no cost. Courses run for an average of six weeks and new sessions begin every month.

Some of our most popular courses include Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2019, Instant Italian, Accounting Fundamentals, Writing Effective Grant Proposals, Nonprofit Management, Grammar for ESL, Introduction to XML, Homeschool with Success, Certificate in Meditation, QuickBooks, and Discover Sign Language.

Once you have selected your course, you will have access to two lessons each week for about six weeks. Each lesson has a short, multiple-choice quiz, and some lessons may include a hands-on assignment. You are expected to try to complete each quiz and assignment within two weeks of the lesson being released. Once you have successfully completed the course, a certificate of completion will be emailed to you.

Pronunciator offers interactive lessons to help you learn a new language, including self-directed activities, teacher-led conversation classes, quizzes, and pronunciation practice. Some of the most popular languages are Italian, French, Sanskrit and Spanish. Pronunciator offers well over 160 personalized language courses, movies, music and more. You can follow along at your own pace, or download the app on your phone. There are also options for young learners 7-12 years of age, and options for beginners, intermediate and advanced courses.
