Rental housing company that spans across the Prairies, Avenue Living, is donating $100,000 to be distributed to various food banks in each of the company’s residential markets.

“We are committed to supporting our local communities, especially during the coronavirus pandemic,” says Louise Elsey, chief operations officer, Avenue Living Communities, in a release. “We understand the significant impacts that the pandemic has put on both our residents and the wider communities, so we wanted to ensure that we were doing something proactive to support their needs.”

As COVID-19 continues to put a strain on families across the country, food banks are on the front line to help ensure that vulnerable Canadians are still receiving vital food support during this time.

“We want to ensure we are doing what we can,” says Anthony Giuffre, founder and CEO of Avenue Living. “We know times are tough for everyone and we want to do our part. While Avenue Living strives to ensure its residents fulfil their basic needs of shelter, we are also a proud supporter of food as a basic need, hence this donation.”

The 17 food banks or similar community organizations receiving donations are located in Camrose, Edmonton, Wetaskiwin, Brooks, Calgary, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Bonnyville, Lloydminster, Red Deer, Prince Albert,

Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Regina, Swift Current, Winnipeg and Yorkton.

In addition, as a gesture of appreciation for frontline workers, 500 units of available rental housing has been offered at a special price across the Prairies. These are available to nurses, veterans, law enforcement and protection service workers, students and seniors.
