LCI grads get memorable sendoff
As a way to salute the graduating class of 2020, Lethbridge Collegiate Institute High School threw a parade celebration in front of the school for the graduating class to have their special moment.
With the restrictions of COVID, LCI faculty and staff came up with the plan to celebrate with their 225 graduates all together, through a moving parade with their families. Teachers and staff at LCI say they have been having a good time delivering their graduation packages, as well as planning this special occasion.
“We are willing to do pretty much anything to celebrate the grads and we were a little confined by AHS regulations, but we got ours planned early and we had it set,” says Wayne Pallett, principal of LCI. “It has actually been a really fun couple weeks sending out the grad packages and the kids came to the school to pick those up with their grad caps and tassels, and then the last couple weeks we have done some travelling around the city giving out athletic awards and fine arts awards, as well as the grad signs.”
Graduation is an important time for many people, as it signifies the hard work and accomplishments of an individual’s learning. Although many families have had to resort to their own celebrations, LCI wanted to include everyone in a fun and safe way.
“Today is a parade and is a chance for our students to come by and be celebrated with our staff along this entire block, with everyone hollering, it really is a fun time,” says Pallett.
“It seems like a lot of the celebrations have been landing more back to the families and family celebrations this year. It is super exciting to have students back in school and to see their faces again, even when we did all of the deliveries, it was just the best thing to see them again and see the families, as well as the positive celebrations they were doing.”
As the graduation class moves on to the rest of their lives, Pallett says the COVID pandemic is a strong indicator that the students will be able to tackle any challenge that comes their way in future years.
“If the grads were able to adapt through this time and move on and move forward, they are able to adapt to anything in life moving forward because this has put a challenge in all of us,” says Pallett.
The 2020 graduating class from Lethbridge Collegiate Institute High School and their families and friends paraded down the street in front of the school to celebrate the end of their hard work and to commemorate the start of much more.
