• Mindful Moments is offered every Saturday (except long weekends) from 11 a.m.-noon at Martha Retreat Centre, 1130 Scenic Drive S., featuring a drop-in session based in Mindfulness teachings that combines a short talk with formal group meditation in silence. No experience is necessary. Facilitator: Cheryl Dick. Freewill offering accepted. Official income tax receipts are available upon request.
• Martha Retreat Centre will offer an online event, The Woman’s Wisdom Quest: A Retreat for Spiritual Seekers.
1st Online Offering: Tuesdays, Oct. 6Nov. 10, 6:30– 8:30 p.m. MST; 2nd Online Offering: Wednesdays, Oct. 7Nov. 18 (no classes Nov. 11), 10 a.m.noon MST. Each option is open to a maximum of 8 women who have travelled a spiritual path for many years and are yearning to integrate their wisdom, experience and spirit into the fullest expression of their potential. This retreat will include ritual, movement, art, reflection, journaling, deep silence and exploratory conversation. Course materials will be provided upon registration. Please note: the final class will be a 30 minutes longer to accommodate a celebration (6:30-9 p.m.) Facilitator: Deborah Eastlick. Cost: $300. Tuesdays, 7-8:30 p.m. from Oct. 6 to Nov. 10 (6 weeks). This series of sessions offers foundational practices in Mindfulness and Meditation — skills that support finding rest and inner peace in today’s busy world. Participants will build awareness through sitting, walking and other meditative techniques proven to relieve the mind and support healthy living. Anyone interested in growing their understanding and experience of Mindfulness is welcome. Please arrive early on the first night to register. Facilitator: Cheryl Dick. Cost: $80. An examination through the words of Henri Nouwen of how death and the dying process can become a meaningful experience, one that can deepen our spiritual insight into our life journey. • Coaldale United Church Thrift Shop (2022 18 St.) has reopened and is open each Thursday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Our space has been re-arranged to support social distancing. Sanitizing hands is required, and wearing a mask (or other mouth and nose cover) is strongly recommended. We are limiting the number of adult shoppers in the hall area to 15 at any one time. For now, the only children allowed will be those in carriers or strollers. Most adult and youth clothing at $2, children’s clothing at $1 and baby at 50 cents. Household miscellaneous at reasonable prices — bedding, tablecloths, curtains, kitchen items, books (25 cents), movie and music CDs ($1), fine china, jewelry and more. Cash only.
