Man facing over 30 charges may seek bail
A Lethbridge man facing more than 30 criminal charges stemming from a police raid on a southside home last month may seek his release from custody when he returns to court next week.
Shaun Ryan Hlavach has been remanded at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre since his arrest Sept. 24, when police searched a southside home for drugs, and discovered explosives.
During a hearing Friday in provincial court, Lethbridge lawyer Vincent Guinan said he has a bail plan, but needs time to discuss the proposal with the Crown. Federal Crown Prosecutor Mark Klassen told court during Hlavach’s first appearance Sept. 28, that he is opposed to the accused’s release. The matter is scheduled to return to court Thursday, ostensibly for a bail hearing.
Lethbridge police were looking for drugs when they searched a home in the 800 block of 16 Street South. The explosive disposal unit was called in, however, after police noticed several suspicious packages. The explosives unit confirmed the items were improvised explosive devices.
Police reportedly found seven explosive devices, along with suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine, as well as more than $13,000 in cash, stolen property and ID documents, and various items one of the suspects was prohibited from possessing.
Hlavach’s charges comprise multiple counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, possession of a prohibited weapon, knowingly possessing a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of an explosive substance, possession of stolen property and possession of identity documents.
Hlavach also has unrelated charges under the Traffic
Safety Act, for which he was wanted on outstanding warrants.
Also arrested and charged in relation to the police bust is Allyson Lauren Deal, who faces three counts of drug possession and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon. Her court appearance is set for Nov. 6.
Jocko Slade Trotter was charged with failing to comply with a release order. His court appearance is set for Nov. 24.
