SACPA denounces group distributing flyers

-

The Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs board is denouncing an effort by a local group which is using a falsified screenshot of SACPA’s webpage and distributing flyers with false information regarding SACPA’s next session about the Lethbridge Overdose Prevention Society on Nov. 5.

The SACPA board said in a release to The Herald:

“Recently, it was brought to the attention of SACPA's board of directors that literature containing false and misleading information regarding the Nov. 5 upcoming session, and featuring the SACPA logo and website header, has been distributed throughout our city. The board wishes to clarify that our organization is not affiliated with these flyers and disagrees strongly with their content.

“With regard to the session in question, SACPA wishes to reiterate its position in our community as a forum for informed conversation on the pressing public affairs issue in our community. Our hosting of a session on a particular topic does not necessarily imply our support of the speaker or their positions — and this applies to speakers from all walks of life and areas of the political spectrum. What we do believe, however, is that our community benefits from having tough conversations, and from receiving information related to those conversations from subject matter experts and those closest to the issues.

“Respectful dialogue is a cornerstone of our democracy, and a fundamental plank of SACPA’s mandate. We will continue our efforts toward an educated and informed citizenry despite efforts to intimidate or invalidate competing views.”
