Alberta Milk, ASAA team up for fundraiser

- LETHBRIDGE HERALD shanna@asaa.ca.

The Alberta Schools Athletic Association and Alberta Milk have teamed up to help high school students in a tough COVID-19 time.

The ASAA has heard anecdotes from student-athletes and their coaches about the impact that COVID-19 has had on their mental health due to the lack of community belonging that has been such a big part of their lives in the past. Many schools across the province are also experiencing difficulties funding programs that are essential to their school communities.

Alberta Milk, a long-time sponsor of high school provincial championships, has created a virtual challenge to safely bring student-athletes together to work as a team to potentially win $5,000 for their school’s athletics program.

The #PassOffChallenge kicked off Oct. 13 with a video from Sage Watson, a former ASAA provincial champion and now an international track and field athlete from Medicine Hat.

Beyond the physical benefits of participating in sport, school athletics provide student-athletes a sense of community, belonging and support that is fundamental to the development of these young adults.

To enter this contest, students need to post a video showcasing their skills in any sport on TikTok or Instagram, tag and follow @AlbertaMilk and use #PassOffChallenge.

Contest winners will be announced after Nov. 9 and entries will be judged on creativity, uniqueness and school spirit.
