• Lethbridge Public Library is seeking artwork for the Kids’ Art Show Gala. What does it mean to IMAGINE? Artists 12 years old and under can enter to win our prize draw by creating a work of art based on this year’s theme “Imagine” and submitting it for display at the Kids’ Art Show Gala to be held in December. Art can be submitted throughout the month of November on our website, lethlib.ca, or at the Children’s Services Desk at the Main Branch.

• Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organizati­on is launching the Drive Happiness program where volunteer drivers take seniors to their medical appointmen­ts, to pick up groceries or take them to important life activities. The Drive Happiness program is looking for volunteers to assist as drivers. Many seniors in our community are facing extreme loneliness due to the lack of accessible transporta­tion in the community and COVID-19 has only compounded this loneliness. • Do you, or someone you know, have a gambling problem which is causing havoc in your life and relationsh­ips? If so, you’re welcome to attend weekly meetings of Gamblers Anonymous, held Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and Thursdays at 6 p.m. at 408 13 St. N. (front entrance). For more informatio­n call 403-331-0822.

• Coaldale United Church Thrift Shop (2022 18 St.) is open each Thursday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Our space has been re-arranged to support social distancing. Sanitizing hands is required, and wearing a mask (or other mouth and nose cover) is strongly recommende­d. We are limiting the number of adult shoppers in the hall area to 15 at any one time. For now, the only children allowed will be those in carriers or strollers. Most adult and youth clothing at $2, children’s clothing at $1 and baby at 50 cents. Household miscellane­ous at reasonable prices — bedding, tablecloth­s, curtains, kitchen items, books (25 cents), movie and music CDs ($1), fine china, jewelry and more. Cash only.

• Mindful Moments is offered every Saturday (except long weekends) from 11 a.m.-noon at Martha Retreat Centre, 1130 Scenic Drive S., featuring a drop-in session based in Mindfulnes­s teachings that combines a short talk with formal group meditation in silence. • Bold ‘n Brave, a local organizati­on that inspires youth to be confident and learn life skills, is hosting a free familyfrie­ndly scavenger hunt from Nov. 20-30. Register to get your first clue and details on how to get your name entered for prizes. Register online at boldnbrave.ca.

• Christmas at Casa Holiday Market is operating online this year, running from Nov. 20-Dec. 1 at the Christmasa­tCasa.ca website, featuring more than 40 vendors offering handmade fine art and fine crafts. Depending on the vendor, there are options for local drop-off, shipping and safe curbside pick-up at AAC Works on 7 Street S.

• Lethbridge Public Library presents The Word On The Street Fall Reading Series featuring Desmond Cole Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. online via Zoom. In his 2015 cover story for Toronto Life, Cole exposed the racist actions of the Toronto police force, detailing the dozens of times he had been stopped and interrogat­ed under the controvers­ial practice of carding. • University of Lethbridge presents the PUBlic Professor Series, featuring Dr. Elizabeth Galway, Nov. 26, 7 to 9 p.m., via Zoom webinar. Galway, an English professor, presents “What’s So Childish About Children’s Stories? Exploring the Complex World of Literature for Young Readers.” Galway will explore ways children’s texts engage with issues that are not just relevant to young people but also adults who influence children’s literature, including authors, illustrato­rs and publishers. She’ll draw on her research into imperialis­m and nationalis­m in 19th century British and Canadian children’s literature and uncover some of the complexiti­es in children’s literature.
