Chinese five-spice powder — a mix of star anise, Szechuan peppercorn­s, fennel, cinnamon and clove — provides a balanced hit of sweet, savory, bitter and sour in “The Spice Is Right.” For this challenge, hosts and judges Valerie Bertinelli and Duff Goldman task the seven young bakers still standing to create Chinese five-spice desserts to stay in the game.

Joining Shepherd are chef Natasha De Bourg, chief stew Daisy Kelliher, chief engineer Colin Macrae, first mate Gary King, second stew Dani Soares, third stew Alli Dore and deckhands Sydney Zaruba and Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux. Friction sets in almost immediatel­y between chief stew Kelliher and chef De Bourg, setting the tone for what’s to follow.

The Emmy-winning musical competitio­n series returns for Season 20, which also makes the 10th anniversar­y of the show. Pop music superstar Nick Jonas reclaims his red judge’s chair on the panel, along with returnees John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton. This season’s Battle Advisors include Darren Criss; Luis Fonsi; Brandy; and country duo Dan & Shay. Carson Daly also is back as host.

The 126 team is dispatched to a funeral where another dead body has crashed the service, then to a hospital where an MRI machine has gone haywire in the new episode “Displaced.” Elsewhere, Tommy and Owen (Gina Torres, Rob Lowe) both feel out of place in their own homes as Gwyn (guest star Lisa Edelstein) moves into the Strand residence. Meanwhile, T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein) makes waves in his new position.
