Pronghorns soccer teams wrap up season this weekend

-

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s and women’s soccer teams wrap up their Canada West season at home this weekend.

The Mount Royal University Cougars pay a visit to the University of Lethbridge Stadium today and Sunday at noon for the women’s game, while the men’s game goes today at 2:15 p.m.

On the women’s side, the 1-9 Horns tangle with the 3-6-1 Cougars.

The Pronghorns have lost three games in a row, including being swept last weekend in Edmonton by the division-leading MacEwan Griffins.

Lucy Mundy and Kaleigh Harris lead the Pronghorns in scoring with two goals and two assists this season. Anneke De Klerk also has scored two goals this season.

The Cougars are fighting for their playoff lives, currently four points behind the Manitoba Bisons for the final quarter-final spot. The visitors will need a pair of wins this weekend to move past Manitoba.

During the opening weekend of the season, the Cougars beat the Pronghorns 3-1 in Calgary.

Sunday’s game will mark the final game for the Pronghorns trio of Erin Gill, Collette Mofakham and Elli Kabayama.

The Pronghorns men (0-7-2) head into their final game today.

Coming off a tie in their last outing last weekend on the road in Edmonton against the Griffins, the Pronghorns will look to finish the season on a high note.

Despite only earning a tie on home field this season, the Pronghorns have played well at home with all three home losses by a single goal.

The trio of Karim Bey, Will Hughes and Landon Veluw are tied for the team lead in goals with two.

During the opening weekend of the season, the Cougars edged the Pronghorns 1-0 at the U of L Stadium.

Today will also mark the final home game for two graduating Pronghorns as Nolan French and Jitse Van den Hadelkamp will wear the Pronghorn jersey one last time.

The games will be streamed live on www. canadawest.tv.

Proof of vaccination or a negative rapid test with government issued ID is required to attend Pronghorn home games.
