Medalta will be serving up some scares this Halloween weekend.

The organization, along with the Medicine Hat Youth Action Society, will be hosting its third annual Haunted Factory Tour today and Saturday, with this year’s tour taking place in the Brick and Tile Site.

“It’s a haunted factory that has been built by youth in our community; we’ve been working on it since the beginning of September,” said Safira Lachapelle, museum co-ordinator with Medalta.

Lachapelle said more than 40 volunteers helped develop the site. This year’s theme is “the Apocalypse at Medalta,” and features four areas.

“It’s pretty scary,” said Lachapelle. “This year, we were going for eerie and unknown ... We’re taking people through in smaller groups, so you kind of get the sense that you’re on your own and you have to find out how to get out of there.”

Attendees park at Medalta and are shuttled to the factory in groups. While waiting, children’s activities and trivia games will be available in the market space, and families can also carve pumpkins for $5. There will also be prizes for best costume, though attendees are also asked to dress warm due to part of the tour being outside.

The tour runs from 7-10 p.m. tonight. There will be a children’s day tour Saturday from 4-6 p.m., which is less scary for the kids, as well as another night tour from 7-10 p.m.

Tickets for the night tour are $75 for a group of 6, $40 for a family (two adults, two children), $15 for adults, $8 for youth and free for children under six. The children’s tour is $30 for families, $8 for adults and youth and free for children under 6. Tickets can be purchased in person at Medalta or by calling 403-5291070.

Lachapelle suggests those interested in going on the tour phone ahead for tickets, as the event has sold out in the past two years.

Proceeds will benefit both Medalta and the Youth Action Society.
