Medalta given Travel Alberta ALTO award
Medicine Hat’s very own Medalta has been named as one of this year’s nine ALTO winners.
The awards are given out by Travel Alberta each year to organizations for nine tourismrelated areas. Medalta was given its award for work in sustainable tourism.
“We’re just thrilled,” said executive director Barry Finkelman. “This award really brings full circle to the work we’ve been doing over the years, and it recognizes the efforts of so many people who have helped make us what we are today.”
Finkelman said Travel Alberta took three factors into account before it awarded the winner: environmental sustainability, financial sustainability and community sustainability. Finkelman said the award reflects the facilities Medalta has built over the years.
“Over the years we’ve worked with our partners to create a first-class museum and education and research facility which celebrates the ceramic arts,” he said. “Being matched up against our peers shows how well we have done and it’s just a delight.”
Finkelman said this is Medalta’s first ALTO award and the people at Medalta will continue to work to offer the best possible facilities to the public.
“We have our museum, as well as our work studio as well as offering classes to students in elementary schools in the city,” he said. “While this award is great for everyone here at Medalta, we’re going to continue to work to offer the best facilities we can.”
Just months ago Medalta was also awarded one of three awards by the Alberta Museum Association. The award recognized both leadership and sustainability.
