More than a thousand Hatters flocked to the Something for Everyone Market this weekend at the Medicine Hat & Stampede grounds.

The market was the first of five scheduled for 2017, and co-ordinator Monica Kallis says Something for Everyone is off to a hot start.

“Last February we had about 1,400 people come check out the market, this February we are going to beat that,” she said. “We’ve got about 90 vendors at this weekend’s sale and they really are offering a bit of everything.”

Now it its sixth year, Something for Everyone has grown greatly over the years, said Kallis.

“At the start we were at 15 tables, and I had to beg the vendors the be there in the basement of a hotel,” she said. “Our Christmas market last year had 135 booths and a waiting list — and we want to hit 140 vendors at this year’s Christmas market.”

Kallis says she cannot pinpoint one exact reason for the growth over the years, and attributes it to many factors.

“This is the career that I have always wanted for myself — I’ve worked for this career,” she said. “With that said, the support from the community and the vendors has been amazing — we wouldn’t be near where we are today without the constant support.”

Kallis says a lot of Something for Everyone’s success over the years is because there is no entry fee.

“Offering free admission in this economy is huge,” she said. “Even if people don’t want to buy anything they can still come out and browse, and can maybe buy something else down the line when they have the cash — there’s no risk in coming out just to look.”

Kallis says she hopes 2017 can be an even bigger year for her, and the local vendors at each of her shows.

The next Something for Everyone Market will take place on April 8 at the Stampede grounds.
