Rattlers women miss out on bronze

-

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers women’s basketball team managed to make a lot of noise at the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference championships in Lethbridge, but came up just short in their bid to bring home some hardware.

The SAIT Trojans managed to hold off the underdog Rattlers and escape with bronze in a 57-39 season finale at Lethbridge College thanks to a dominant third-quarter.

The Trojans outscored Medicine Hat 15-3 in the third to widen a six-point lead to 18 entering the final frame, and the Rattlers never managed to regain their footing.

Rattlers forward Kennedy Werre closed out the season with yet another double-double performance. Werre led the Rattlers with 12 from the floor and 17 boards in the contest, but she was the only member of her team to crack double digits in the point category.

Dragana Vukovic helped the Rattlers control the boards with 11 rebounds of her own on the night — out-rebounding the Trojans 44-38 in the game — but the SAIT offence proved too powerful.

Alicia Tan and Alexis Tan both finished the night with 15 points for the Trojans while Martina Allen added 10 from the bench to sink the Rattlers and take home a bronze medal.

The host Lethbridge Kodiaks ended up taking gold with a 84-54 win over the St. Mary’s Lightning.
