Redcliff council met to discuss a rather light agenda Monday evening at Redcliff town hall, speaking on a widerange of subjects from bylaw readings to donation requests.

After the meeting Mayor Ernie Reimer commented on the quick meetings council has had in the last few months saying, “The last few meetings have been really quick, but as we go along here the items are going to start getting bigger.”

New, used grader

Council read through a memo from the municipal manager on the status of the town’s search for a used grader.

During the 2017 budgeting process, council set aside a budget of up to $190,000 for a used grader. Council is looking at spending $163,750 on the grader, plus another $5,250 on an extended oneyear warranty on the machine.

“We have a grader now, and we’ll be keeping that one and sending it to the landfill site — it will serve as a backup,” he said. “We need a grader for things like clearing snow, clearing back lanes and using it for levelling out areas, so this will be nice to have for the town.”

Donation fund

While budgeting, council set aside $5,000 to use as a donation fund, for any organization seeking a donation.

At Monday’s meeting is was a local atom hockey team searching for a donation to fund its trip to the upcoming provincial championships being held in Provost.

After speaking for a short while about it, council decided to donate $100 to the Redcliff Atom Grizzlies, for the trip being held March 16-18. Reimer says he was happy to see council pass on some money to the team.

“It’s tough to have to pick and choose who we give money to, and I’m glad we decided on our budget to help these people out,” he said. “I’m glad council voted to give some money to the team, and I think it was the right decision.”

Redcliff council’s net meeting will be held on March 27.
