Seven Persons-area rancher Kody Traxel, (K lazy T Ranch), took home most of the hardware at the Medicine Hat Spring Bull Sale earlier this week.

Traxel won Champion Junior Bull, Grand Champion Angus Bull, Best String of Bulls and Highest Selling Angus Bull ($9,100) during the two-day event. Traxel said he couldn’t have been ready for the show on time without the support of his dad Keith and his four-person grooming team.

“For the last three months we have been prepping bulls and equipping them for the ring to make them look just right. And then it comes down to bringing them into town to put on a good show,” said Traxel.

Altogether there were more than 40 consignors and 127 bulls represented at the bull sale, and Traxel, who is only 24, was up against some veteran competition. He said the wins can only help him build up his bull breeding and selling business.

“When we go to a bull sale like this, and do well, it’s a big promotion for us. It’s important for us to get our name out there. I’ve had a lot of phone calls from people, and they are pretty excited we did that well. We have been doing this for eight years now but we are still just starting out, in a sense. It’s a lot of homework to get the herd built up where it needs to be. We are trying to build up the best cattle to help our commercial cattlemen get the best calves out of their cows.”
