Ringette teams finish season playing each other

-

Medicine Hat’s under-14 B ringette teams went all the way to Calgary for provincials and wound up playing each other to end the season.

Both the Vortex and Blaze went 2-2 in the round robin, not quite good enough to crack the top four in the 12team event. Thanks to goal differential tiebreakers they were seventh and eighth respectively, setting up a unique last game.

Blaze won 5-2, getting goals from Ashlyn Unreiner, Callie Johnson, Preslee Starner, Jae Shott and Delaney Mastel. Vortex had goals from Nolan Reid and Lexi Owen. Hailey Orr got the win in net for Blaze while Trevor Moffat was in net for Vortex.

Lacombe took the under-14 B title over Fort McMurray. Blaze played both teams to open the weekend, losing 8-3 to Lacombe and 8-1 to Fort McMurray. They then beat Bowview 8-3 and Pembina 3-0 Saturday.

Vortex lost 7-4 to Leduc and 6-3 to Pembina on opening night, rebounding just like Blaze did with a 6-3 win over Calgary Ambush and a 7-5 win over Calgary Thunder to reach the seventh-place game. Under-12 Also in Calgary, the under12 C Misfits finished eighth. No scores or other information was provided. The Ringette Alberta website shows Fort McMurray beating Beaumont in the final.
