It appeared to be one of those meetings for the members of Redcliff council Monday where everyone was on the same page.

Members met for the sixth time in 2017 with the largest to-do list to date, but councillors and Mayor Ernie Reimer were able to cruise right along.

Advance polling

The first item up for debate was whether there should be an advance polling station set up for this fall’s municipal election. Reimer says this is something he would like to offer the people of Redcliff, because anything can happen.

“The last few elections I can remember an advance poll was offered,” he said. “Some folks are just unable to make it out on the particular voting day at the particular time, whether they are out of the country or even just in the hospital for a few days, life happens to everyone.”

Reimer says he and the rest of council will have to wait and see what is drawn up before anyone can make any conclusions.

Pitchin’ in

This year will mark the 50th annual PITCH-IN week, where members of any community participating across the country gather and team up to clean up their place of residence. Reimer says the town traditionally participates in the event, which won’t change this year.

“This is done every year and different organizations get together to pick up everything from loose garbage, all the way to dog excrement,” he said. “For the week we have the landfill open free for people to dump certain items there, such as household items like tree branches and grass clippings.”

Their was a discussion during the meeting of council taking part in an afternoon of cleaning, with the date of that still in the works.

Green no more

Back in 2009, Redcliff council approved Policy No. 113 — the built green incentive policy — in an effort to encourage energy efficient building in the Eastside subdivision.

No one has made a claim for a rebate in eight years, and Reimer says council will be ending the policy due to inactivity.

“Since nobody had ever tried to get a grant from this, council decided to delete it today.”

No senior games

One of the last items on the agenda was a letter to council from minister Ricardo Miranda, encouraging council to put up a bid to host the 2019 Alberta Senior Masters Games, but Reimer says the town just isn’t quite there yet.

“From time to time we get letters like this to host certain events or games, but as it sits in Redcliff right now, we don’t have the facilities to support it,” he said. “The scale of something like this just isn’t where the town is right now, but down the road I’m hoping we can start making bids to things like this.”

Council’s next meeting is April 10.
