People from all over the town of Redcliff got together Sunday to form teams and tackle the trash that was revealed once the snow thawed.
The clean-up event was just one of many during the town’s 50th annual Pitch In Week, which is aimed at keeping the town as clean as possible said mayor Ernie Reimer.
“We ask people to do this every year to help keep our town tidy,” he said. “There’s a number of events throughout the week where people can volunteer their time to their town and to keeping it nice and clean.”
A few council meetings ago, Reimer and the rest of council decided to give their Sunday morning to the cause, and he said it is important for the group to lead by example.
“While this is pretty different for us, not being in city hall having a meeting, we want to show everyone in town that we care too,” he said. “Part of our mandate is taking care of the town and that’s why we have decided to come out this morning and participate.”
Reimer said having a clean town is important for many reasons.
“If we want people that are driving through town or just visiting to have a good impression we can’t have trash everywhere,” he said. “We also want to make sure the people of the town are happy with how the town looks.”
Council will meet Monday from 79 p.m. for its scheduled meeting.
Medicine Hat also held its annual Little Blitz, with citizens cleaning up various parts of the city.
